The MYL Girls Lacrosse Program Overview

McLean Youth Lacrosse serves all girls living within the McLean High & Langley High School Districts ages 5-14, mainly zipcodes in 22101, 22102, 22043, 22046, & 22066. You must in Northern Virginia in order to play in the Spring League (NVYLL).

Please go to this website: http://boundary.fcps.edu/boundary/

to find out which public High School District you live in. You must enter your public high school where you reside when you register online for the Spring 2018 Season. You don't necessarily have to plan to go to McLean HS or Langley HS, but if you live within these two public high school boundaries then you can play with McLean Youth Lacrosse.

In the 2018 Spring Season, we will participate in the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL.)

Grade Division Classifications

In 2018, the girls will continue to play in grade based divisions as follows:

Grades 1/2

Grades 3/4

Grades 5/6

Grades 7/8

The girls divisions are divided into conferences based upon the skill level of the players. The conferences are A for advanced players, upper B for intermediate players and lower B for novice players.

Girls 6U (U7) Program

MYL will once again run the popular 6U (U7) girls program this spring for girls aged 5-6. This is a fun developmental clinic geared to the younger, beginner player that meets for 90 minutes on Saturday afternoons in April and May. The 6U’s do NOT travel and do NOT play in Sunday games like the Grade 1/2 division players.

The 6U program fee is $100 (if you don't need equipment) or $179 (if you need goggles and a stick) and it starts up on Saturday, April 7th, 2017, at McLean HS Stadium Turf or Bermuda Grass from 12pm-130pm.

GIRLS 6U (U7) players must provide full set of equipment; goggles, girls stick, mouthguard, and cleats (Lacrosse cleats preferred).

Please contact one of the commissioners if you would like some guidance in placing your child in either the 6U (U7) program or the Grade 1/2 division.

Team Placement
MYL is dedicated to fostering the growth of every player and their enjoyment of the sport by providing an environment with teammates and opponents of nearly equal skills.  Therefore, all registered players are strongly encouraged to attend at least one player evaluation session in December for the A Team. We will publish the tryout evaluation schedule on the front page of mylax.net.

Team placement will be based upon (in no particular order):

               {C}{C}Age group

               {C}{C}Athletic skills

               {C}{C}Lacrosse knowledge/experience

               {C}{C}Stick work

               {C}{C}Level of commitment

               {C}{C}Maturity of character

AAA-Team Placement

Players who want to be considered for the 7/8 or 5/6 "A" level team, are required to attend a "A" team ONLY tryout in December.  Tryouts for girls A teams will posted on mylax.net left tabs under Girls Winter Tryout Schedules.

Note: In consideration of teammates, any player that does not play lacrosse as their primary spring sport might not qualify for a AAA team, regardless of the results of their player evaluation.  If a player must frequently miss practices or games due to participation in another sport or activity, MYL reserves the right to place that player on a different team to free a spot on the A team for a player who will participate fully.

The fee for girls (excluding the U7 program) is $235 per player.

Additional fees may be incurred for team training and tournaments, but participation will be at the option of the player.

Given the continuing growth of our program we are encouraging all families to register as early as possible to make sure we have the coaches, uniforms and field space needed to run our program.

Practices for all teams will begin in early February/March, except for the 5/6AAA and 7/8AAA teams, that will begin practices in February.

Team practices are held 2 days per week for all teams during the spring season.  There will be one weeknight practice and one Saturday practice for all teams.  The weeknight practice schedule is based on coaches' availability and field space.  The schedules should be available by mid to late February.

There will be no practices on Easter or Memorial Day weekends.
